[Newsletter's going out earlier this month so I can take a proper break.]
Soft will end on the 24th and then the last digital volume will be out (unfortunately Gumroad doesn't hold pre-sales anymore or even scheduled publishing...). Patrons getting their Monthly Reward (Holiday Edition) on the 25th like always. And that's it.
This year wasn't as anxiety inducing as the last, but still was pretty stressful mostly from a personal standpoint. And it's easy to be left with the idea of a bad year, but looking back I've surprisingly managed to do a lot, and especially, try a lot of new things that weren't even on my radar or goals to start with.
I finished a webcomic (again), I wrote a draft of a novel, two shorts, started doing interviews (even interviewed some of my favourites), set up a couple 'build a character's in Patreon, have been working on a new proposal, besides all the small adds and tweaks to new and old ideas. There were also some very unexpected realisations about myself that already changed a lot and hopefully will change even more for the better.
So, did I get everything I hoped from this year? Certainly not, but I always find hope in being reminded that just as life throws unexpected hard things at you it also throws some pretty unexpected nice stuff.
Here hoping our 2024 will be full of expected and unexpexted nice things and that we can tackle the unavoidable hard stuff.
Now my favourites from this year~
My favs
Books
I picked the 5 books that left me with a lasting impression for whatever reasons. In reading order:
A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon
Imogen, Obviously by Becky Albertalli (probably my favourite book of the year and I had called it since my review!)
The Swashbuckler by Lee Lynch
The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows (2nd book of the Feminine Pursuits series but a standalone) by Olivia Waite
In the Roses of Pieria (1st book of The Blood Files) by Anna Burke
Comics
Didn't read that many new stuff this year, mostly keeping up with ongoing series, but here are the new ones (to me):
She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat by Sakaomi Yuzaki
Not So Shoujo Love Story by Curryuku
Flung Out of Space: Inspired by the Indecent Adventures of Patricia Highsmith by Grace Ellis and Hannah Templer
The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich by Deya Muniz
TV and Movies
Barely watched anything this year, but Blue Jean and Heartstopper deserve to be mentioned.
Sending my best and deeply hoping all of you can find ways to enjoy these holidays and rest. See you in 2024!
